About the Journal
Jurnal Awaliyah: Jurnal Bahasa, Sastra, Budaya, Studi Islam, dan Pengajarannya is an open-access and peer-reviewed academic journal that publishes scholarly works in the form of empirical research, conceptual studies, and applied research in the fields of language, linguistics, literature, culture, Islamic studies, and their teaching and learning.
The journal is published by Yayasan Santri Cendekiawan Indonesia and is issued twice a year, in March and December. Manuscripts may be written in Indonesian or English. Submitted papers must be original, unpublished, and not under review by another journal.
All submitted manuscripts will undergo expert review before being accepted for publication. Authors hold full responsibility for the content and originality of their published articles.
Focus and Scope
Jurnal Awaliyah: Jurnal Bahasa, Sastra, Budaya, Studi Islam, dan Pengajarannya publishes high-quality scholarly works including empirical research, theoretical studies, literature reviews, and interdisciplinary studies in the following fields:
- Theoretical and Applied Linguistics, including phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, discourse studies, corpus linguistics, and technology-assisted language research.
- Language Studies in Local, National, and Global Contexts, covering regional languages, national language, foreign languages, language revitalization, and language documentation.
- Literary Studies, including literary criticism, literary theory, classical, modern, and contemporary literature, oral literature, and comparative literature.
- Cultural, Traditional, and Civilizational Studies, including folklore, cultural anthropology, identity studies, local wisdom, and intersections between language, literature, and culture.
- Islamic Studies, particularly those related to Arabic language, religious texts, Islamic scholarship, Qur’anic studies, and Muslim society.
- Philology and Manuscript Studies, including transliteration, textual criticism, codicology, Islamic scientific tradition, and intellectual heritage preservation.
- Translation Studies and Textual Analysis, including translation theory, translation pedagogy, discourse analysis, hermeneutics, and semiotics.
- Language, Literature, Culture, and Islamic Studies Education, including pedagogy, instructional strategies, curriculum development, educational technology, and learning assessment.
- Digital Humanities and Contemporary Religious Media, including digital religious discourse, online Islamic literacy, media representation of religion, and digital-era cultural transformation.
Peer-Review Process
Before entering the peer-review stage, all manuscripts submitted to Jurnal Awaliyah: Jurnal Bahasa, Sastra, Budaya, Studi Islam, dan Pengajarannya will undergo a preliminary evaluation. Submitted manuscripts must comply with the journal’s focus and scope, author guidelines, and the required template. Manuscripts should demonstrate scientific merit, relevance, and novelty. Submissions may be returned to the author without review if they fail to meet submission requirements, deviate from the manuscript format, cannot be accessed properly, exceed the word limit, lack substantial contribution, or are presented unclearly.
This preliminary screening also includes plagiarism checking using similarity detection software in accordance with the journal's Plagiarism Policy.
Manuscripts that pass the preliminary evaluation will be assigned by the Editor-in-Chief (or Managing Editors or assigned Editors) for external review. A double-blind peer-review process is applied, ensuring that both reviewer and author identities remain confidential. Reviewer comments are treated confidentially and will not be disclosed in a manner that reveals reviewer identities.
All manuscripts are subject to peer review. If revisions are required, authors must submit the revised version within the specified deadline. The peer-review process for regular article submissions typically requires approximately 2—8 weeks, counted from the time the manuscript enters the review stage after preliminary evaluation.
All manuscripts under review are treated confidentially in accordance with publication ethics. The Editor will make the final decision to accept or decline the manuscript based on the reviewer reports. Once the review decision is finalized, the corresponding author will be notified via email. The decision outcome may include resubmission for review, minor revision, major revision, rejection, or acceptance without revision, as outlined in the Author Guidelines.

The names, email addresses, and other personal information submitted to Jurnal Awaliyah: Journal of Language, Literature, Culture, Islamic Studies, and Education will be used exclusively for the purposes of journal management, publication communication, and scholarly record maintenance.
